The Head
The head was not as easy as it might first look - the basic wedge shape actually contains a number of curves and steps, in addition to the eyes and vent detailing.
I think you understand the technique by now: sketch the basic shape; build layers of polystyrene to create a block; then cut and shave it until it matches the 3D render. The head alone used half a whole sheet of foam.
Because of the shape of the neck region of the chest model, there was a large depression which meant there was no foam to attach the head to. In essence, he had shoulders but no neck. No panic - I just carved a small block to fit so that the top was flush with the rest of the body.
Here is the head in situ. It's starting to look like a robot now, eh?
